Inspired or Required ?

A question to ask yourself, think of where you are in your life good, bad or indifferent.

Now ask yourself are you INSPIRED to be here? or Required to be here?

1. Source of Motivation

  • Inspired to do something:
Inspiration comes from within. It is fueled by emotions, passions, or a deep connection to an idea or cause. When you're inspired, you feel a sense of excitement, purpose, and creativity that drives you to act. It often stems from admiration, curiosity, or a desire for self-expression.Example: A musician creating a song after seeing a beautiful sunset.
  • Required to do something:
A requirement is imposed externally, often by rules, obligations, or societal expectations. It might come from a job, a legal duty, or a commitment you’ve made. The motivation is not necessarily emotional or internal but rather about fulfilling an obligation or avoiding consequences.Example: Filing taxes by a specific deadline because it's mandated by law.

2. Freedom of Choice

  • Inspired to do something:
You have full autonomy to decide whether or not to act. There is no external pressure forcing you to proceed, making the action more voluntary and enjoyable.Feeling: Excitement and creativity.
  • Required to do something:
The sense of choice is limited or absent. You may feel compelled to act because failing to do so could result in negative consequences, such as penalties, guilt, or disappointing others.Feeling: Obligation or responsibility.

3. Emotional Connection

  • Inspired to do something:
The action feels meaningful and rewarding. You might even exceed expectations or go beyond what’s typical because you’re deeply invested.Outcome: High personal satisfaction.
  • Required to do something:
The emotional connection can vary. You might feel indifferent, reluctant, or even resentful, especially if the task feels burdensome or lacks personal significance.Outcome: Satisfaction depends on the context (e.g., relief after meeting a requirement).

4. Example Comparison

  • Inspired Action:
You decide to write a novel because you’re moved by a story idea that excites you. The process is fueled by creativity and passion.
  • Required Action:
You write a report for work because your boss expects it by Friday. The motivation is fulfilling your professional duties.

In essence, being inspired comes from within, offering a sense of joy and purpose, while being required stems from external obligations, often carrying a sense of necessity rather than desire.
